Lyme & Co-Infection Nosode Drops
Lyme disease is caused by a spirochaete bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. The bacteria can be transmitted to humans and animals via the bite of several different species of ticks (Ixodes sp). The Ixodes tick acquires the bacteria when it bites infected mice, squirrels, other small rodents, or birds. It is the nymph life cycle stage of the tick that is most responsible for passing on the disease (1). Typical symptoms of Lyme disease include a characteristic “bulls-eye” rash that forms an expanding ring around the site of the tick bite, often accompanied by fatigue, fever, chills, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, and joint and muscle aches. The disease is sometimes referred to as the “Great Imitator” because its symptoms resemble or mimic those of so many other diseases (2).
Ticks can harbor more than one type of bacteria, and a single bite can transfer one or more of these co-existing microbes (3). These include Babesia microti, several species of Bartonella, Rickettsia, Chlamydia trachomatis, and others (4). As with Lyme disease, any of these can also result in flu-like symptoms, and if left untreated, can lead to complications and serious malfunctions of vital body organs. Babesia, by far the most common co-infection, attacks and destroys the red blood cells of its host, resulting in severe anemia, blood clots, and jaundice. People that are coinfected with Lyme and Babesia seem to present more intense and prolonged symptoms than those infected with Lyme disease alone (5). Bartonella can cause many disorders including cat-scratch fever, endocarditis, encephalopathy (6), and even depression and panic attacks (7). The likelihood of tick transmission of co-infections are dependent on a number of factors such as geographical location, the age and feeding habits of the tick, and how long it remains attached before removal. Manifestation of disease in humans also depends on many factors including age, overall health, and genetic predisposition.
Either short- or long-term antibiotic regimens are the conventional treatment for victims of Lyme disease and its co-infections. Unfortunately, antibiotics can cause a number of other problems, while more than half the patients that undergo short-term antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease continue to experience symptoms (2). Nosodes are another approach commonly used in homeopathic medicine to prevent or treat a specific disease. They are prepared using actual products of diseased tissue from humans or animals, such as respiratory discharge, blood, or other bodily secretions, etc, that are repeatedly diluted and exposed to vigorous shaking or “succussion”, resulting in a solution so diluted that the presence of the original diseased tissue exists only in the “memory” or energy of the water (8). Homeopaths believe that the immune system is stimulated by the nosode at a deeper level than what occurs with conventional vaccines, correcting energy imbalances that predispose a person to a particular illness. Nosodes stimulate the body to initiate a more natural response to disease, without the introduction of live or modified viruses and potentially harmful preservatives that can weaken the immune system (9)
Lyme and Co-Infection Nosode Drops’ unique formula contains 21 different ingredients, sourced from plants, animals, and disease tissues that work together to support the immune system in resisting infection and/or lessening symptoms of Lyme disease and co-infections. The ingredients are chosen for their “proven” use in homeopathic medicine, to stimulate specific host responses (10). Arnica montana, for instance, is one of the most widely prescribed homeotherapeutic products on the market for helping to relieve muscle soreness, pain, and stiffness. Hydrastis canadensis acts especially on the mucous membranes, causing them to relax and produce a thick secretion, and may help to restore energy, and reverse loss of appetite and muscle atrophy. Cartilago suis is sourced from porcine cartilage and affects joint pain as well as cognitive function. BioPure’s liquid nosode drops are a more convenient form of our previous product that came as tablets. The drops are easily and accurately dispensed and, if desired, can readily be mixed into different strength solutions.
