Dr. David Brownstein's approach to optimizing your response to viral challenges is the use of 4-key nutrients.

Karen Fitzpatrick-Dame, ChhC, AADP

Dr. Brownstein's recommended nutrients should be taken in a clean, proper form.

Vitamin A plays an important role in supporting the immune system responses to infectious agents. It has been shown to help regulate and support the innate as well as the adaptive immune system.

Vitamin C The immune system cannot function optimally if there is a deficiency of Vitamin C. An infectious illness will acutely increase the body's need for Vitamin C. Nearly 100 years of research has shown the efficacy of Vitamin C in treating viral and other pathogenic illnesses. Ascorbic acid is NOT real Vitamin C and the body only absorbs 10% of ascorbic acid. Real Vitamin C from whole foods is completely absorbed and used by the body.

Vitamin D has been shown to help both the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system in response to infection. Adequate levels of Vitamin D are critical to the body's response to infection, lowering inflammation. Good levels of Vitamin D have also been shown to reduce the risk of viral infections.

Iodine Adequate levels of iodine are essential for the proper functioning of the immune system. Iodine is anti-bacterial anti-viral, anti-parasitic, and anti-cancer. n Iodine has been shown to increase the ability of white blood cells to kill infectious organisms, including viruses.
